Surroundings of Hallstatt
Krippenstein
Take the car toward Obertraun and take a right toward “Krippenstein” before you get into town. Once you arrive you will find a big free parking lot. From there you take the cable car up on the mountain. You will find a beautiful view and some nice hiking paths. Take a short hike to the “5 Fingers”, a lookout point where you can step out on a bridge to enjoy the most beautiful view over Hallstatt and the lake. It´s simply incredible! On sunny days paragliders will start from up there. We like to take a picnic and just sit and watch them for a time. It´s not dangerous for kids, no worries.
Up there you will also find the
Dachstein Ice Cave
The large ice cave is a very impressive site. They offer guided tours in English. Dress warm. It gets really cold!

Koppenwinkelsee“ and „Koppenbrüllerhöhle (local hint)
Take the car to Obertraun, the neighboring village. Coming from Hallstatt you turn right in Obertraun and continue straight out of town till you see the “Gasthof Koppenrast“ parking lot. Park your car there. Take a walk from there into the forest to the right. Walk about 10 minutes and you will find a beautiful hidden lake. You can take your stroller. From the parking lot to the left (across the street) you can get to the Koppenbrüller Höhle, a cave with beautiful dripstones and a stream running through it.
